40294kg This competition revealed a total doping scandal! The Kazakh Ilya Ilyin achieved the world record with 418kg, the Russian Alexandr Ivanov with 409kg the second best and the Moldavian Anatoli Ciricu with 407kg the third best performance. All three were doped and had to hand over their medals. The following athletes moved up. However, the fourth best, the Russian Andrei Demanow and the sixth Azerbaijani Intiqam Zairov, and the seventh Kazakh Almas Öteschow were also doped! Therefore, the athletes with the original places 5, 8 and 9 advanced to the medal ranks.
