Four days after the competition, it was announced that Koreyev had tested positive for the stimulant bromantan. He was stripped of the bronze medal. However, he appealed on the grounds that this had only served to strengthen the body's immune system. The Court of Arbitration of Sport ruled in his favor and he got his bronze medal back.
