The Turkish athletes Asli Cakir Alptekin and Gamze Bulut were the first and second finishers. Retests of their 2012 doping samples revealed that they had been doped. They had been disqualified for doping in 2015 and 2017, respectively, and had to forfeit their medals. The following athletes took their place. In the summer of 2024, it was discovered that the Russian Tatyana Tomashova had also been doped. They had to forfeit their silver medal. The following athletes took their place again.
