Olympic record Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin crossed the finish line with an Olympic record of 3:35:59. But since all Russian athletes were doped, everyone was disqualified in 20km and 50km walking. Kirdyapkin was stripped of his gold medal. The following athletes moved up. This and other cases of doping in 2008 and 2012 resulted in Russia as a nation being excluded from the Olympic Games from 2018.
