Olympic medals from Novlene Williams-Mills

The Russian relay finished second in 3: 20.23. During tests of the doping samples from 2012, it was found that the two athletes Yulia Gushina and Antonina Krivoshapka were doped. The following teams moved up.

The British, disappointed, finished fifth with 3: 22.68. In post-tests of the doping samples from 2008, the Russian runners Tatjana Firowa and Anastassija Kapatschinskaja were found to have the doping agents Stanozolol and Turinabol. In 2016 the Russian team were subsequently disqualified and the silver medal was revoked. The Belarusian team originally took fourth place, but was also convicted of doping. Therefore, Jamaica advanced to silver and Great Britain to bronze.
