81 kg Ingemar “Ingo” Johansson had thought about a strategy. He intended to let his opponent attack the American Edward Sanders in the first two rounds of boxing and to conserve his strength in order to surprise him in the third round and defeat him. But he miscalculated as he was disqualified by the referee in the second round for inactivity. He was stripped of his silver medal. But Johansson's fighting style did not contradict either the Olympic or World Boxing Federation rules. In 1982, 30 years late, he was presented with his silver medal in person.
